One Vote
Just learned from a friend about the cool website and video, One Vote: A Short Film about Women and Voting. The website itself speaks to many of the concerns my students have addressed in our election-themed course about whether or not their votes "matter," especially given that so few states have been designated as "swing states." I'm still considering how I'll approach teaching the video in my class, but I'm planning a discussion of GOTV and fundraising letters later in the semester, and watching this video might complement that discussion nicely.

I just saw this film in Blockbuster as I was looking for another movie, and I was so excited to see this. But then I wondered how many people knew about the film.
I wanted to pick it up and rent it, but there was only one copy, and I thought if I left it maybe someone would pick it up and see it tonight - someone whom it would be more timely for (i'm already voting and can see it after the election).
Thanks for the website info, and i'll keep telling others about the video...

Thanks for the tip on Blockbuster. I'll be curious to see how my students repsond (and with 75 total students, that's more likely to have a ripple effect).

Not sure if it's related to your class or not, but you may want to tell them about this.

I have a link to it on my course blog, but I haven't *really* talked about BFD in class, in part because of my participation in Georgia for Democracy MeetUps, etc. I don't want students to think that I'm "forcing" a political agenda on them, and by talking about my experiences, I fear that I'll leave them with that impression.
This is actually a pretty complicated issue for me this semester as I think about my goals in teaching the class (my primary goal, of course, is simply to make my students better writers).

Oh no, I didn't mean talk about BfD.. I meant the Election Protection training. Perhaps, www.electionprotection2004.org is a better site. It's non-partisan ;) But, you're right in that it doesn't fit in with your primary goal of the class.
