Thursday Morning Film Links
With midterm grades due in the next few days, I'm in the last days of a grading marathon, which is why I've been pretty much invisible in Blogland lately. But David at GreenCine pointed to a few links I don't want to lose.
First, Jeannette Catsoulis's New York Times article on a new documentary, ...So Goes the Nation, which offers a "clear-eyed and utterly ruthless dissection of the battle for Ohio in the months leading up to the 2004 presidential election."
Second, I also wanted to point to Anthony Kaufman's review of Jesus Camp, published in In These Times. I'm still convinced that the film is unnecessarily polarizing, in part because it blurs the boundary between evangelicals and the Pentecostal group depicted at the camp. I've alredy written quite a bit about this doc, so I won't repeat all of my arguments here, but I have been intrigued by the amount of discussion the film has received (AICN link via Daily Kos).
I'm hoping to finish my grading tonight, but I'm also finding that with a 4/4 teaching load and lots of publication dedlines looming, the one aspect of my life that is getting squeezed out is blogging. Hoping to get caught up soon.

I don't know Chuck, you seem to be doing a pretty good job of keeping up with the blogging. I've been busy and it cuts severly into my net surfing! Hope you are having a great semester despite the workload (4/4 - that's slavery! ;-)

I would like to extend an invitation to you to join in on a collective blogging section of our upcoming winter issue of Reconstruction. The issue is the “Theories/Practices of Blogging.†In addition to the special section of posts on blogging there will be about a dozen essays on blogging.
The deadline is October 20th.
Our intent in this section of the issue will be to collect a wide range of bloggers and link up to their statements in regards to why they blog (something many of us are asked) and any statement they have on the theories/practices of blogging.
If you already have a post on this you can feel free to use it, or, if you are interested, you can submit a new one.
We will link to each statement from the issue at our site, with the intent of creating a hyperlinked list of statements on blogging that can serve as an introduction to blogging (or an expansion of knowledge for those already blogging).
If you are interested please contact me at mdbento @ gmail.com

Agnes, maybe I should speculate about why I feel like I'm falling so far behind. I think grading sixty-odd papers makes it easy to lose touch with the blog world for a few days. The 4/4 load isn't as bad as it sounds, especially given that I only have two teaching preps.
Michael, I'll send you an email later tonight, but I'd like to participate if I can get caught up on my grading and some other writing assignments.
