Documenting Guantanamo
My allergies are going nuts tonight (I think it's because the steam heat in my apartment just came on), so I haven't been able to get any real work done. Instead, I've been following Darren's IMDB-inspired example of trying to list my top 15 films of the last 15 years. My list isn't done yet, but while I was surfing IMDB, I came across news that Michael Winterbottom, who directed Code 64 (which made the long list), is currently working on The Road to Guantánamo, a TV movie about the Tipton Three, a trio of British Muslims who were held in Guantanamo Bay for two years until they were released without charge.

I've been thinking lately about my favorite movies and I think Matewan and Rumble Fish top the list, but they ain't from the last 15 years.

Studio Theatre (in your neck of the woods) is also producing a piece of documentary theatre on Gitmo. It opens next week, in fact, and you can find the info here:

Intersting choices, McChris. I like Matewan quite a bit, although I need to see it again. If I pick a Sayles film, which is very likely, it will almost certainly be Lone Star, which came out in 1996.
Ryan, thanks for the tip on the Gitmo doc. I'll try to catch it (and review it, of course), but may have too much going on....
