What We Talk About When Other People Are Listening
Via Girish: the fascinating blog, Overheard Lines, which consists entirely of "things actual people actually said, captured by an eavesdropping playwright in San Francisco named Tim (or his spying friends)." Warning: once you start reading, it's pretty difficult to stop.

You might also like Overheard in New York, which has been going for couple years now and features user-contributed content.

Thanks for the link. I figured there had to be other blogs like that one. The New York blog looks quite strong, especially given the large number of eavesdroppers who contribute to it.

I just lost 15 minutes of my day on that site! Hilarious!
You'll have to come by the house again soon - the paint looks great and we're starting to get a bit settled in. Thanks for all of your help!!

I enjoyed helping out. Painting is a nice break from reading critical theory. Glad to hear you're settling in.

Too funny. I too just wasted a quarter hour when I should be going to the library. But now I'm going to start eavesdropping more.

Yes, now that I'm riding Metro on a regular basis, I'm finding it awfully tempting to eavesdrop. Of course, when some commuters talk so loudly on their cell phones, they become impossible to ignore.
