Pardon the Dust
Working on some more template and stylesheet changes, including the transition to using TypeKey for comments. If the blog looks messy today (Friday), that's why. That's all for now.
Update: Weird. The changes seem to have corrected themselves automatically, at least for now.
Update 2: More experimentation: I've noticed that in the paragraph after a block quotation, the line spacing changes.
So here is a blockquotation.
And here is some text below the block quotation, just to see what happens. By the way, if anyone knows a fix for this problem, I'd appreciate it. Oh, and I'm working on matching the fonts, too.
Update 3: It appears to be switching to double spacing after lists, too. I'd noticed this when I would preview an entry, but it never showed up before on my actual blog, just when I previewed it. Really weird.
Update 4: Testing out some other minor changes to see if I can fix the blockquote problem.

Okay, testing TypeKey and it seems to be working.

Now testing to see if Typepad has corrected to display my first name only.

Seems to be working Chuck. Awesome.

The one thing I miss on here is your "Recent Comments" section, which is the most useful part of any blog for me.

Oh, but other than that I think it looks great... sorry for the all negative and no positive thing!
Posted by: Dylan at December 17, 2004 5:17 PM
I'm planning to add "recent comments" back in, but it may take a while given my lack of HTML savvy. Once I get started, I do enjoy tinkering, but I'm also pretty cautious about making too big of a mess.
I didn't read your comment as terribly negative, just as constructive criticism. Recent comments are very useful. I'll try to add in recent trackbacks, too.

Chuck, since you just went through the process, I'd appreciate it if you could review my instructions on the main Herd blog to make sure they are accurate.
In that post, I also asked G. to post the code for Recent Comments.
Finally, I think you need to tweak the style for your bio and blogroll. The font is wonky. Try looking at how the code under "Archives" looks in the Main Index Template (index.html) and emulate that around your bio and blogroll?
Otherwise, looking good!

Yes, I've been trying to figure out how/where to insert the code for the correct font. Every time I try to insert that code around my bio and blogroll, it just shows that code *on* the blog. I'll keep working on it.

Okay, other than the slight font color difference, it looks like I've fixed the sidebar. I've even added recent comments (just doa search on G's blog). Now I'm off to conquer other (blog) worlds!

It's always fun to bring out a whole new template. Give the squares a jolt, I say.

You know I'm all about jolting the sqaures! I'd change templates more often, but as I mentioned, I'm not very savvy with HTML. And I don't match colors very well, either.

This gray-on-gray is just about impossible to read.

But now it's all better.
Posted by: Jonathan at December 17, 2004 10:44 PM
Jonathan, are you using Firefox? Wondering where the glitch is hiding....
Posted by: chuck at December 18, 2004 1:08 AM
I'm finding it **extremely** difficult to read your blog. I knew this post was here (via Bloglines) but it requires lots of squinting at the screen to find it in the black on gray scheme. I'm using firefox, btw.

Thanks, Beth. I'll try to find the glitch. The background should be white, so maybe there's a problem with the banner.
Posted by: chuck at December 19, 2004 4:41 PM
Here's one possible solution: I changed the banner color to white just to see how that would look in Firefox. If that's not the problem, I'll keep digging.
