Kerry-Edwards 2004

As most of you will know by now, John Kerry chose North Carolina Senator John Edwards as his running mate (I just got my email, about half an hour after the newspapers got theirs). It wasn't a big surprise, but I think it's a good choice. And the delayed announcement did manage to create a little buzz about the campaign today.

I'm running late, so here is John Edwards' "Two Americas" speech, one of my favorite speeches of the Democratic primary season, and a link to the New York Post cover story announcing Gephardt as Kerry's VP choice.

It _was_ a brilliant choice. Edwards' much vaunted (and by all accounts genuine) optimism razes the "rage and pessimism" charge right into the ground. The guy is infectious. My only regret is that he and Kerry can't swap nominee titles . . .

Yeah, I hadn't noticed, but Edwards was conspicuously absent from that "pessimism and rage" ad (as were all the VP contenders). They'll probably accues Edwards of being too optimistic...
I would have liked Edwards on top of the ticket, too.

Not related to this post, but since you're interested in film title sequences, the latest episode of Stage and Screen will interest you. It's available at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/rpms/stagescreen.rpm

and is up until next Monday.

Thanks for the tip, Chris. I'm just now getting a chance to listen to the show--good consideration of Bass.

Hey Subina! Thanks for dropping by. Hope your summer is going well. I'd heard about the Kerry site, but this is the first time I've looked at it.

What did you think of F9/11?

summer's going great. when i'm not working at a cozy little smoothie shop, i'm at kennesaw taking classes that would be ten times harder at tech. might i add that i sure love hope.

i saw f-9/11 on july 4th. being the liberal that i am, i had looked forward to seeing what everyone called a bush basher. at the end of it all, i decided that several of moore's arguments may have had merit, but some of his claims could have been backed up better. it seemed like right after he would introduce shocking evidence, he would give a brief explanation and move on without tying everything together to build a strong case against the presidency. well, he could have done that on purpose so the audience could form its own opinions. either way, the media should had delved into this stuff a long time ago. i'm glad i saw it though. the film strengthened my stance against the war and gave my gut instincts a bit of legitimacy.

Subina, for a more nuanced look at the war, you might check out Control Room (playing at the Midtown Art this week). It's about how different networks, including Al Jazeera, have been covering the war in Iraq.

Glad you liked F9/11 (and that it strengthened your opposition to the Bush administration). I was frustrated with the film for similar reasons. I'd agree that it felt forced in a few places. Also glad to hear that your summer is going well.
