Looking Ahead/Looking Back
In a sense, all of my blog entries are Janus-faced, looking in two directions simultaneously: into the past they are in the process of recording and into the future where they may (or may not) be received. The beginning of a new year seems to enhance that tendency both for my own blog and within the blog community in which I'm lucky to participate. With that in mind, I'm going to heed Liz's call to "count my blessings" and Kathleen's call for my hopes (and goals) in 2004.
First, my blessings:
- A great job where I get paid for watching movies, reading books, and then talking and writing about them.
- A wonderful group of friends who constantly support, encourage, and inspire me.
- Access to several outstanding movie theaters--Atlanta just keeps getting better as a movie town. There are some great restaurants here, too.
- Atlanta's great college and community radio scene.
- A wonderful coffeehouse with some of the best coffee drinks I've tasted (funny, my list is starting to sound a lot like George's).
- The blogging community itself. Like George, I think starting this blog has been one of the most important things I've done this year.
- A supportive family that celebrates my happiness and success.
- To see my book take shape. It might be a stretch to finish the book, but I'd like to give it a shot.
- To exercise more often. Whenever a rush of grading hits or I have a lot of writing to get done, jogging is the first thing to fall off my radar.
- To see a Democrat elected to President in 2004. This may fall under the category of "hopes," but I'll keep fighting the good fight, especially in the blogosphere, of trying to make this country the compassionate, peaceful place I believe it can be.
